Lesson 8
Acts 2:40-47
A Vital Church Grows
Let us go back to verses 38-39 to pick up where we left off. Peter is giving a sermon to those that at Jerusalem for Pentecost. Each of those that were in the upper room are now filled with the Holy Spirit and they are able to speak to those around them in their own languages so that they can hear the gospel message.
“Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.‘” He continues with the words of “Be saved from this perverse generations.
Let’s Take A Closer Look
Questions

2. What did some people do after hearing the message? (41) The ones that were saved were baptized.
3. About how many people were added to the church that day? (41) About 3,000 people.
4. After they were added to the church what did they continue to do? (42)They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
5. What came upon all those that were new members of the church? (43)They were filled with awe at the miracles that the aopstles were performing.
6. What was done in verse forty-three? The apostles performed many wonders and signs.
7. Now that all who believed were together what did they do? (44) They were all of one accord and had all things in common.
8. What did they do daily? (46-47)They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.
The Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. How wonderful it would be if our churches today were more united together. I am not saying we have to sell everything we have and share and divide among others but it seems like they had sweet fellowship in the first church, maybe more so than we do today. We have fellowship today but in a different way.

New International Version (NIV)
1 Timothy 4
1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

1 Timothy 4:6 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family.

Devotionals: Which Jesus do you serve
Our Pastor preached about this at our morning worship service today!
Tuesday, November 1, 2011Which Jesus do you serve
Yes your right this one is a repeat and it I will continue to repeat this till i know that each of us has answered this question. Is probably the most important question that you or I could ever ponder.
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1-2)
The call to imitate God is a call to separate ourselves from the world though we may be in but not of it (Ephesians 4:17-19) and how we have been made new (Ephesians 4:20-24) and then gave us specific ways to do that (Ephesians4:25-32).
Our call is to live with the same love that Christ has demonstrated. Jesus laying down his life for us, was first of all an expression of his love for his Father. Jesus did it, not only because of his love for us, but because first of all he loved the Father and this was the Father’s will. This ‘life of love’ is not to be something we do to make ourselves feel good or appear good, it is to come out of and be an expression of our love for God Himself. When John says, “We love because he first loved us,” (1 John 4:19). The first thing we need to do in the Christian life is become utterly convinced of God’s love.
On Sunday they raise their hands to heaven and declare that it is Jesus that they serve.
Then why do we look so much like the world?
Did you know that the wheat and the tare, the world can't tell which is which and quite frankly neither can I. So I pose the question again, which Jesus do you serve?
My Savior bleed and suffered and died and rose again for a sinner like me. My Savior, was a friend to friendless, He remembers the forgotten ones among us, Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
Is it this picture of the American dream that you chase after? Is the prince of this world who you serve or did you miss that part when you decided you want fortune and power?
If Jesus was here would you walk right by him or cross over to the other side of the street?
Would you even recognize him or have time to speak to him?
Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a white complexion Michael Angelo version of Jesus ,is that the Jesus you serve? My Savior was battered and bruised for my sins, did you miss that part? Sometimes I ponder do we really understand what the price he paid for us?
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they understand and they know My Savior. So which Jesus do we serve. is it the one whom we pray to bless us with great wealth? Or the Jesus who said
blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness?
So who do you serve? The one whose promises are like shifting sand?
Marine says it God , then country and the marine Corp, what comes first for you?
My Jesus would he be accepted in your churches today? All bloody and bruised with no shoes on his feet, would we want him sitting next to us? He was not rich he didn't have a pillow to lay his head upon. Today my Jesus would look like a homeless man or perhaps we would see him as mentally insane.
He spent His time with criminals and those that are considered the least among us. Did you know he had a heart for the poor, so which place would He come to eat Sabbath meal at your house or among those that were forgotten by society?
Its time we decide which Jesus do we serve but I'm not sure we understand what that means to be like Christ,
Jesus said to live like HIM, love like HIM but then does that mean we must be willing to die for HIM as he died for you and I???
Can we be Imitators of Christ? Can we live like our Savior? Which one do you want to be ? I turned on the TV set today and heard a man preaching Jesus wants to make you rich and that he never intended for us to be poor. Is that the Jesus your seeking??? Heard a pastor say that his Jesus says that we should never be sad. Yet my Jesus wept when heard his good friend was dead. So which Jesus do you serve? I know that I want to be more like my Savior and less like me. I want to be an imitator of my Savior what about you????

Here are my answers for the questions in Lesson # 7~
1. Do you have the same joy as David did?
Yes I do have the joy that comes from having Jesus Christ as my Savior, Lord and Master of my life! I was eleven years old when I first accepted Him into my life to guide and direct me through this journey here on earth. I am saved by the blood of Jesus that He shed on the cross.
2. What did you learn from this portion of Scripture?
I learn something new each time I read a scripture that I have read many times before.
David was sure of the hope that God would send the chosen One, the Messiah, as I am sure that He sent Him the first time. I know that He will return for me and all of His chosen people, the church. This means all who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
I am an not worthy of such a great Love!!

I do take the Bible very seriously! Therefore, I take the study of its scriptures serious and honor the words in it as Gods Holy Words. They are His infaliable Words! I beleave with all my heart that the writters of the Bible were inspired by God. You can stand on them and build your life accordingly to what you read and learn from studying the Holy Scriptures. If you are listening to a speaker or reading anything that does not line up with what the Bible has to say, stear clear of their teachings. As a little one at our church once said,,,if you want to know something, you can find it in the Bible!
This is the reason why we need to know what the Bable says and do not take the word of anyone else, but read it for ourselves.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (NIV)
15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
May God always recieve the glory, not me! I am so unworthy of such a Great Love as my Savior Jesus Christ has for me. He took my place, He died on the cross for me and all lost sinners. He was, He is, He always will be the Great I AM!
Jesus Christ is the Great I AM
Jesus Christ claimed to be the “I AM.” It is the personal name of the God of the Old Testament (Exodus 3:13-14). On several occasions it is recorded that Jesus used the “I AM” formula in attesting to His deity. He claimed to be the LORD God, Jehovah, Yahweh.
The greatest of all the names for the Lord Jesus Christ is the “I AM.”
This is why the apostle Paul wrote: “God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Jesus is Lord. The name that is above all other names is “Lord,” and it is equivalent to “Jehovah” or Yahweh. This is the exact equivalent to the words, “I AM.”
The name that is above all earthly and heavenly names is Yahweh, the great “I AM THAT I AM.”
The apostle Paul tells us that the Lord Jesus is so above all other beings that all who are in heaven and the earth will bow and worship Him. He is God. He is not one among many gods, but the One and Only (Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5; 1 Cor. 8:4).
This is the reason why we need to know what the Bable says and do not take the word of anyone else, but read it for ourselves.
